Thanks to you, History is Moving

MOHAI thanks the Seattle City Council for unanimously voting to uphold the agreement enabling MOHAI to transform the Naval Reserve Armory Building at Lake Union Park into a regional history museum in 2012. MOHAI's current site at McCurdy Park including 60 years of private investment will be completely demolished. This is an unprecedented loss of a private, non-profit institution. State compensation, combined with significant private fundraising, will ensure that MOHAI survives and thrives, continuing to serve generations of students and families at its new home in a dramatically restored Seattle landmark. In addition to transforming the Armory into a center for exhibits, public programs and educational experiences, MOHAI will also replace other functions that cannot be located at the Armory in an off-site facility nearby. We are excited that this great community partnership, years in the making, continues to move forward.

Project Costs
MOHAI at the Armory: $60 million
MOHAI off-site facility: $30 million

Project Funding
Compensation from the State: $45 million
Federal Historic Tax Credits: $5 million
Capital Campaign Fundraising: $40 million
